Instead of preparing an exam every week, have the students prepare exams for each other.
Tuesday each student would hand you in an exam they have written consisting of about 5-10 questions based on the previous week's lesson, alongwith an answer sheet.
Check it, hand it back to them on Wednesday.
Thursday they bring it back to you having corrected their mistakes.
Friday redistribute so that everyone has another student's exam. Once they've finished, give plenty of time for them to check their answers with the person who wrote their exam.
The very act of writing an exam will reinforce what they have learned; more than that, having them correct each other will make their own self-confidence soar. Everyone gets to be "teacher" and "student".
