A great math idea for ELL students is also helpful with their English developement and confidence is to have them learn a math topic that you are going to teach the class. Hold them the day before and teach them the lesson. Then let them b e the teachers to the rest of the class. Use cooperative learning (jig saw). They will be using their math vocabulary and their minds to learn this lesson better. Another advantage is that they are communicating in a random situation.
