prefix/suffix chart

Start with teaching base/root words.

Then make a chart with 3 columns. Base word in the middle, prefix on left, and suffix on right. Give them some base words and they come up with the other parts. We do this whole class to begin and then I give them paper to work with a small group to do the same activity. When they are doing it small group give them 3-4 base words and they have to come up with 3 more base words on their own.

You can make a poster of some of each of the ones they create and hang it in the room to use as a reference. Also put what the prefixes and suffixes mean before too.
