Summary
Students have 20 questions to guess a certain object.
Rules
The teacher thinks of an object and the students can ask "Yes" or "No" questions
to determine what the teacher is thinking of. The students can make a guess
after each question.
Variations
1. The teacher has an object in a bag and the students have 20 questions to
guess what is inside.
2. The teacher choses something that the students can see, and the students
have 20 questions to guess what it is.
3. After students understand how to play the game, give a student the chance to
think of the object. (who guesses, the teacher? If so clarify. Or is it one student,
like the one who wins? Clarify.
Make sure that the students can construct "yes" or "no" questions before starting the game. If they cannot, or
have insufficient practice with questions, prompt them. Restrict the objects to vocabulary words that the students
have studied.
The advanced students will excel at this game, because making quesitons in English comes more naturally to
higher-level speakers. If too few students are participating, try placing the students into pairs or small groups to
encourage communication.
Students will ask questions which can not be answered with a "yes" or a "no". They will also try to make
multiple guesses per turn.
