Wall Number Line Game

Clear one or more large bulletin boards. In advance, write the numbers from -10 to 10, including zero, on sheets of paper. Explain to students that they are about to create a number line. Give each student a number and a push pin. Tell them when you say, "go," you are going to time them to see how quickly they can put the numbers in order on the bulletin board. Try the activity several times until the students can do it rapidly. Then demonstrate how to do simple addition and subtraction problems using the number line.
